Violent games increases aggression

Scientists suggest that violent video games have a stronger effect on children’s aggression because they tend to reward violent behavior since a “win” requires a high tally of killing, stabbing, kicking, stealing, shooting etc.These actions also have to be repeated over and over, and hence, children’s learning of aggression is enhanced by repeated action.This means that kids can have more aggressive thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Some suggest that kids can also become less helpful and sociable.

Physically, heart rates climb, palms perspire and the brain’s amygdala or its “fight or flight” area, which senses danger and prepares a person to battle or run away, is activated. Repeated exposure to violence increases the likelihood of direct imitation of recently observed aggressive behaviour, and the use of aggressive solutions when faced with conflict or problem solving. These effects happen as much for children who may already have aggressive tendencies, but can enhance aggression in kids who are pone to such behaviour. High levels of violent video game play have been lined to delinquency, fighting at school and at play, even criminal behaviour. Kids can become numbed or less sensitive to violence in the world around them after a while, thinking that it’s no big deal. Or they can develop the perception that world is generally a mean and cruel place.
